“Japanese Historical Cameras” serve as pages in the history of Japanese camera development, making it more accessible to the world.
Cameras which are considered significant in some regard are selected by the Historical Camera Committee, which is composed of unbiased experts and specialists in the field.
All new cameras released within the calendar year are eligible, with evaluation based on factors such as the first use of a new technology and popularity among consumers.
Most “Japanese Historical Cameras” designated in past years are held in the collection of the JCII Camera Museum, which is run by the JCII, and many are on display.
